6th Annual Farmer’s Market - American Legion Parking Lot, Waynesburg, PA
The farmer’s market runs from May 19 – October 20 and is held on Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The market is located at the American Legion parking lot, adjacent to E. Greene St.  Come and visit this open-air market where locally-grown produce, seasonal flowers and various other merchandise produced by Greene Countians is available for purchase.  Lunch is available on site.

History on the Hill Tour - Waynesburg, PA
A cemetery with no tombstone, a banished cow, a school that graduated the first degreed woman in all of Pennsylvania, a famous artist, a Greene County-born Governor, a segregated graveyard, a leader in female education and much more awaits those who partake in the “History on the Hill” guided walking tour. It all begins at the fountain in the center of College Park in Waynesburg. The tour takes about an hour and a half and can be done by appointment only. Special arrangements can be made for those who cannot walk the entire tour.

Greene County Historical Museum - Waynesburg, PA
The museum will reopen for the season on April 30, 2010. Hours will be Thursday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Other times may be arranged by appointment. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for senior citizens 60+. Children under 12 are admitted free if they are with an adult. The gift shop is open year-round, but by appointment only during the off season.

Conformation Handling Classes - Greene County Fairgrounds, Waynesburg, PA
The classes are available to the general public. At the Black Diamond Cluster Show site, Bill Guappone will be teaching classes on handling in the dog conformation ring. He has over 30 years of AKC experience. Classes are $8.00 per handler and will be held in building #9 every Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.  Sunday classes will be offered from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. through the end of May.  Proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Greene County. Zumba Classes - Greene County Fairgrounds, Waynesburg, PA
From January 12 to February 16, the Greene County Department of Recreation will again offer the fitness program, Zumba. Classes will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays with instructor, Marianne Kolson on the upper level of the 4-H Building at the Fairgrounds. Individual classes will be offered at a cost of $8 per class. Anyone wishing to attend all six classes, however, can save $18 by pre-registering at the discounted cost of $30. Pilates Classes - Greene County Fairgrounds, Waynesburg, PA
The Greene County Department of Recreation will offer Pilates classes beginning Thursday, Jan. 14, at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Waynesburg. Certified Pilates instructor Kathy Cochran will lead the classes, which will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursdays through Feb. 18 on the upper level of the fairgrounds’ 4-H Building. Individual classes will be offered at a cost of $4 per class. Class attendees should wear comfortable clothing and bring water, a towel and a Pilates mat if possible. Winterfest - Ryerson Station State Park, Wind Ridge, PA
Presented by the Friends of Ryerson Station, the hours of this event are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some of the all-day events include ice skating, sled riding, hiking, a scavenger hunt, snowman building, pioneer and other games, prizes, wildlife watching and more!  Rod Burns of the PA Game Commission will be offering a program on coyotes and coyote hunting.  Tom Crist of the PA Fish & Boat Commission will also give a presentation.  Participate in “Talking Trapping” with John Kobuchi.  Also part of the lineup will be an introduction to geocaching.  Submit a winter-themed photo for the park’s photo contest!  Some of the great food will include hot dogs, chili and brownies.  There will also be plenty of coffee and hot chocolate!  Admission is free for everyone!  Don’t forget—their campground is open year-round!  The park will be accepting canned goods donations for the Aleppo-Richhill Food Bank.

The 20th annual Miss Greene County Pageant is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 7, in the Stanley Ferek III Auditorium of Carmichaels Area High School in Carmichaels. Mock Crime Scene Workshop - Waynesburg University, Waynesburg, PA

Chris Cross the County - Mt. Morris, PA
On Sunday, April 18, 2010, Mr. Hardie will attempt to run 12 hours straight on the campus of Waynesburg University.  The run, in conjunction with Waynesburg University’s Mini-Relay for Life, will be an opportunity for Hardie to utilize the passion and enthusiasm of the college event to motivate him to stay on his feet for 12 straight hours.  He expects to run/walk 68 miles throughout the day with support from the cross country and track teams, the Waynesburg University Athletic Department, and a plethora of students.  Those wishing to sponsor will have the same options as last year.  An individual or business can sponsor him by the mile, the hour or donate a set fee for cancer research.  Those wishing to donate or find out more about the Waynesburg University Mini-Relay for Life can contact Chris Hardie directly at 814-931-1250 or chardie@waynesburg.edu.

To honor the dogs of the area's coal mine history, Mountaineer Kennel Club and South Hills Kennel Club adopted the Black Diamond Cluster name and have dedicated dog shows to the faithful and dependable dogs that enrich our lives today. 6th Annual Purple Martin Festival - Mason-Dixon Park, Mt. Morris, PA
The purple martin is the largest of the North American swallows. For the past 100 years in eastern North America, it has nested almost exclusively in nest boxes. The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mason-Dixon Park features two purple martin houses and one gourd rack. The houses and gourd rack will be lowered to change the nesting materials in order to prevent parasites. Visitors to the festival will be able to see baby martins in various stages of development. The baby martins will be banded in order to be able to track their migration. Admission is free and there will be door prizes and food vendors.

Paddle on the Mon - Greensboro, PA
Bring your family, Girl or Boy Scout troop, or other group for an afternoon of canoeing and kayaking. The trip is suited for all levels of paddling from beginner to advanced and is perfect for families of all ages! It is an easy paddle on flat water with minimal motor boat traffic. Hands-on training will be provided prior to and throughout the trip. Only a limited number of canoes and lifejackets are available, and everyone must pre-register. The cost to participate is $5.00 per person. Guests may bring their own canoes or kayaks, along with lifejackets and oars. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST WEAR A LIFEJACKET. Refreshments will be provided. Time is 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Meet at the PFBC new boat launch site, across from the Ice Plant Restaurant in Glassworks, PA. From there, you will paddle about three miles upstream on the Mon River to Old Lock 7, pausing to look at various river access opportunities in Greensboro. Then you will head across the river by Friendship Hill National Historic Site. Then you will go downstream on the Mon and paddle up George's Creek. From there, you will paddle back to the starting point.

Mason-Dixon Line 243rd Anniversary Hike - Mason-Dixon Historical Park, Core, WV
A special hike will be held at Mason-Dixon Historical Park, Buckeye Road, off Route 7 near Core, WV. The hike to the third and last crossing of Dunkard Creek by Mason and Dixon will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010. It will begin at the red barn on the West Virginia side.  Participants will then proceed to hike along the creek into Greene County.  Pete Zapadka, founder of the website, exploretheline.com, will lead the hike and talk. Zapadka is a journalist, historian and astronomer who will guide participants along the banks of Dunkard Creek to the seldom-visited area at which Mason and Dixon in 1767 were confronted by their Indian companions who said they could not take “one step farther” westward.

A Christmas open house will be held at the Greene County Historical Society Museum at 918 Rolling Meadows Road. Hours are 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the 4th and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the 5th.
